Why read and raise?

Everyone wins with the MS READaTHON... Kids, teens, teachers, schools, librarians, parents and people affected by MS all benefit from getting involved.

Kids can stretch their imagination and enter the weird and wonderful worlds created in books. Not only that, they learn the value and importance of helping people in our society who need a little extra help and support. It's also a win-win, every participant gets a thank you gift, certificate and a chance to win some great prizes. Sounds good to us!

Teenagers get to have fun with books! Not everyone is enthusiastic about reading and sometimes reading a whole book might seem like school work rather than fun.  So we've come up with a new idea to get teenagers excited about reading.

Teachers and schools can use the MS READaTHON to motivate student to develop their reading skills. It is also an opportunity to teach children about MS and how it affects families throughout Ireland. This is also a great way to show kids how their actions can help people with MS in their local community. There are also other benefits such as retaining part of the income raised, entry into the teacher and school prize draws and receipt of gifts.

Librarians can use the MS READaTHON to encourage their little and big members to read and use the variety of facilities in the library.

Parents can use the MS READaTHON to encourage their kids to read and to get involved in making a difference in their local community.

People with MS benefit the most as the sponsorship raised by everyone in the MS READaTHON helps us deliver support services to individuals and families around the country. You help provide respite for a person with MS, who needs to give their family a break from caring; counselling hours for someone struggling with the loss of their ability; or a trained, supportive and informative staff member to listen, talk and advise a newly diagnosed person.
