The thing about December

Wonderful writer. The way he writes you can see every scene vividly in your mind & hear each character's voice speaking to you. An incredible ability to capture & document life in rural Ireland.

A sadly poignant story. Johnsey shows us how cruel the world can be especially if we're not perceived as "normal". The bullying, victimisation, exclusion, loneliness & ensuing tragedy make for a very bleak dark story. But it is the authenticity with which it is told that make it a masterpiece in Irish storytelling. Show more Show less
